Stuck in a comedy writing rut? Here’s how to get out of it. This one-day writing workshop will change the way you create and develop material forever.

The focus on this workshop is strictly writing, no performing. You’ll be bringing ideas, and we will go through different ways of developing them. This Intensive exposes you to more ways of approaching your ideas and developing your material. This workshop is designed to help comics/comedy writers of every level.

This workshop based off the ideas in the book, THE COMPLETE IDIOT’S GUIDE TO COMEDY WRITING, and is taught by the Author, Jim Mendrinos. Jim is an accomplished comedian and comedy writer, having written for a host of popular comics and having toured the world as a comedian

The class is broken up into 4 parts:

Finding ideas.

Material approaches


Mapping your jokes.

This 1 day, 5 hour workshop is linited to 20 participants. A lot will be covered in these hours, so be prepared to work hard and write a ton.

The purchased ticket grants you access to every class, hold onto your login info if there is more than 1 class session. Please make sure you download the Zoom app on your phone or computer ahead of time.

Upon purchase, you will be emailed a Zoom link – DO NOT SHARE IT. Only one person can use each link, and if more than one person tries to use it, both people will be locked out of the class.


Keep your Camera and Mic on please.

Place your Zoom in “Speaker Mode” to spotlight the person talking.

If your mic is on, headphones are suggested to prevent feedback.

Please be respectful: if you interrupt the teacher or do anything inappropriate on video you will be locked out of the class.


Comedy Therapy is providing a service via the use of Zoom’s platform, a platform we do not own or control. By purchasing a ticket you agree that any problems or issues caused by using Zoom’s technology are not the responsibility of Comedy Therapy, but if necessary can be taken up by you directly with Zoom itself. By purchasing a ticket you are acknowledging you are aware audio and video of the show will be recorded. You are welcome to keep your camera off if you prefer not to be seen. That said, most classes will not utilize the recording for anything, as they are generally only seen live.
